When you’re a little too…. extra

Well… the summer is well a truly over, and the giant shawl that I’ve been working on neared completion. I had an inkling somewhere about July that I was in trouble, the yarn that I’d chosen for the test shawl was 100% Alpaca and DK weight. I had rather a lot of it, so just kept on trucking getting bigger and bigger.

So… 1k of yarn later…. yes you read that right… at the point that I am above, as in viciously blocked and no fringe or edging…. I’m at 1k in weight.

I mean, the yarn was cheap, but can I really imagine 1k in weight? It was horrible to crochet towards the end, heavy on my lap and heavy in my hands sooo…

I’ve decided to start again and re-work with sock weight yarn. Major changes will include just a single window per stripe, as I did feel that the windows I spent so long on just didn’t pop out at all, it looks like lace, but without further inspection you can’t see the design.

I’m also adding in a lot more airy sections, lighten it up a bit more and let it flow better.

My plan is to re-work so that it takes 2 skeins of nice sock weight yarn, so I wouldn’t say this project is scrapped, it’s very much not scrapped, but I’m now desperately trying to get the pattern worked up a second time with a little less bulk and a lot more light included.

The other major delay is something serious, for which there is no cure, that is massively common among crafters, it’s called Too Many Other Hobby Disease, or TMOH for short!

Anyway, once the trim is finally put on the monster shawl it will be available for sale.
